A masterpiece of precision

The MicroDrive is a sophisticated precision instrument for the exact positioning of recording electrodes and DBS electrodes during stereotactic interventions. With the matching MicroGun, up to five recording electrodes can be inserted safely and efficiently. The high resolution of 50 µm enables neurosurgeons to control electrode placement with extreme precision and provides tactile feedback at each complete rotation (0.5 mm). The MicroDrive is compatible with DBS electrodes from all common manufacturers. If the SingleGun is used instead of the MicroGun, the MicroDrive also allows the insertion of RF brain electrodes for lesion applications, thus expanding the system's range of uses.

For universal use
In order to enable all interested parties to use the inomed MicroDrive for deep brain stimulation, it was developed on a universal platform from the outset. This means that it can be used on all common ring-based stereotactic systems as well as on robotic-guided systems. Special adaptation kits contain the appropriate basic configuration and ensure that the electrode for deep brain stimulation is reliably guided to the target point with the inomed MicroDrive.

Optional single-channel gun use
The MicroDrive enables the single-channel gun for RF brain electrodes (590029) to be used instead of the MicroGun for brain lesioning applications. It is suitable for brain electrodes with a length of 280 mm and a diameter of 2 mm. In addition, the use of the single-channel gun for biopsy instruments (590028) allows biopsy procedures with samples of 280 mm in length and 2.5 mm in diameter. This expands the MicroDrive’s range of applications.

Is it only possible to use the inomed MicroDrive on inomed frames?

No, the MicroDrive can be used on all common ring-based stereotactic systems.

What resolution does the MicroDrive offer?

With a resolution of 50 µm, the inomed MicroDrive enables the neurosurgeons to precisely position the electrodes for deep brain stimulation, with tactile feedback after each rotation. The haptic feedback (a tactile “click”) allows the neurosurgeons to “feel” when a complete rotation of the MicroDrive has been completed.
