FSR-03
: Flexible Stimulation and Recording
Electrode, 3 pole for the Spinal Monitoring
After
numerous demands for a ‚D-Waves catheter', inomed GmbH has developed
a special flexible 3-time electrode which enables to record electric
signals near the spinal cord (epidural) and to stimulate after connection
to a stimulator.
The
main application of the electrode appears, when the neuronal integrity
of the spinal cord has to be recorded during the corresponding operations
of the spinal channel. |

Spinal
operations
During
WS orthopaedic in scoliosis operations, it can be used for recording
of SEP's, MEP's, as well as for direct stimulation in the spinal
cord. In this case, 2 catheters are usually used simultaneously
for stimulation and recording.
Vascular
surgery
Practical
applications of the FSR-03 also exist in vascular surgery, especially,
for transthoracal aortic aneurism OP's (TAA), where the potential
risk for the vital functions is higher. Here it is usual, to insert
the electrode through a Tuohy needle (14G – 16G). This placement
is
habitually
done by the anaesthetist.
Neurosurgery
Instead
of peripheral muscle EMG's, it is directly recorded at the spinal
cord (D-Wave). The advantage is, that despite required MEP measurement,
the patient can be relaxed during the OP, as no muscle answer potential
has to be measured, which would disappear with relaxation. In neurosurgery
the electrode is normally employed for signal recording only. |
Intended
use
Sterile
disposable electrode for single use. It is used for epidural recording
cortico-spinal signals or for epidural stimulation for the intraoperative
function control.
