Thyroid Surgery
Injuries of the vocal cord manifest themselves as hoarseness or temporary of complete vocal cord paralysis. Neuromonitoring helps to reduce the risk of any operative damage of the nerve. A clear statement of the nerve function can be made straight after the intervention.
The surgeon can then end the intervention after an unclear result of a one side thyroid resection and, only after a positive result, remove the second side in a second intervention. This prevents both sides vocal cord paralysis.
