Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a notion gathering for cerebral dysfunctions manifesting themselves in spontaneous seizures as a reaction of discharges of central neurone groups in the brain. An exact cause is usually not identifiable. Epilepsy express itself with different seizure forms.
By the treatment of epilepsy an EEG is performed first. This occurs either not invasive by using surface electrodes or invasive with grid electrodes. Aim of the EEG is to determine the area where spontaneous discharges occur.
Various treatments are possible. The most important ones are described hereafter:
- Medical treatment
- Operative therapy
- Vagus nerve stimulation
- Deep Brain stimulation
